Jordan Spiz’ike Black/University Gold

So tomorrow (8th December) see’s the release of the Jordan Spiz’ike in a fresh colourway, Black/University Gold (which will also be a GS release so good news for little feet)!

The shoe carries a smooth black suede base with patent leather cement elements around the toe and on the side of the heel. University gold highlights the eyelets, Jumpman logo and the gold stitching to really make them POP!

Sleek and sophisticated. That’s my anatomy of these Spiz’ikes.

Most of us are very familiar with the inspiration behind the Spiz’ike, but for those who need enlightening…. the Jordan Spiz’ike shoe is inspired by Director Spike Lee’s Mars Blackmon commercials for Nike in the 90′s. The Spiz’ike combines a few  iconic elements of the Jordan III, IV, V, VI and XX to make this beauty.

Seein as it’s my birthday tomorrow, I can’t think of a better release to bless my day with :)

They will be available directly from Nike.com from the 8th of December (tomorrow!) so go check it and cop yourself a pair of black magic!

Air Jordan IV GS: White – Varsity Red

Yo!

As a big fan of the Jordan IV, already getting my little feet into both the GS ‘Voltage Cherry’ and ‘White/Cement Grey Retro’ releases already his year, I was both excited and a little bit sad for my shrinking bank balance to hear of this new GS release scheduled for August!

This colourway was last seen in 2006 on the Air Jordan IV 2006 Retro Mars Blackmon. A specially designed Jordan for Spike Lee’s character Mars Blackmon outta ‘She’s Gotta Have It’.

The 2012 release will however come without the Mars Blackmon logo on the heel.

This highly anticipated release is due to drop in August, so I guess plenty of time to save!

Check back for release updates x

‘Raging Bull’ Spiz’ike Hype…

After seeing the recent ‘Bordeaux’ Spiz’ike release in February and the Knicks colourways in November 2011, were in for another Spike Lee inspired treat this year!
The ‘Raging Bull’ pack presents the classic Red/Black colourway that seems to making more than one Retro appearance this year!

I particularly like the black details, not forgetting the classic cement feature and the soft grey on the eyelets and lining on the inside.

I love these, Red is my favourite colour and will go with everything in my wardrobe. Red/Black/White is my bread and butter! These babies are definaly going to go down a storm with Bulls fans!

Keep following Big Eyes for news including when and where to cop these!

Peace & Riz

Happy Birthday Michael Jordan!

The all-time King of Basketball turned 49 today and I have done a little tribute post just for Mr 23, collating some of my favorite photos, sneakers, and MJ moments :) …. Enjoy!

Professional Basketball player, Father, Olympic Athlete, Baseball player, Golfer, Business Entrepreneur, Actor, Part owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, and not forgetting THE Mr Air Jordan himself…Even his biography on the NBA’s website states, “By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.” – true story.

Lemon’s Top 5 Jordan’s …(in no particular order)

I

In 1985, Nike gave Jordan and his signature line of sneakers and apparel a unique logo — who knew it would blow up like it did and still be going strong all these years later! Designed by Peter More, the Air Jordan I was considered a breakthrough in basketball show design. The Air Jordan I has been the most reproduced Air Jordan with over 96 colorways!

III

I’m going to sound like a stereo type Jordan-head now, however I still buzz off the elephant print too much to push these babies under the rug! Michael wore the AJ III at the All Star weekend in 1988 where he won the Slam Dunk title which makes them extra special to me. They were also the first Air Jordan to feature the new Jumpman logo. There are various colour-ways but the Black Cement has to be my favourite. They look suave so I can pull them off at work with a smart skirt ;) Tinker Hatfield did a good fine job designing these.

IV
My Personal Favouite, and as you can see I’ve got more to say on these than any other Retro J….

In 1989, following the success of the III, Tinker Hatfield delivered one of the most comfortable, most-loved Air Jordan’s in the series, the Air Jordan IV. Tinker really switched up the design on these making them a landmark in basket ball shoe history, and a ‘Holy Grail’ sneaker for so many Jordan heads (including me!)

Spike Lee created the Can/Can’t TV commercial to promote the Jordan IVs, and still one of my favourite adverts. The IV Cement was also featured in Spike Lee’s movie “Do The Right Thing” in a scene where the character “Buggin Out” goes sick at a cyclist who accidently runs over his kicks leaving them scuffed! Dayam!

The Air Jordan IV is one of the most collected shoes in the series. Ten years after its original release, Nike retro’d the AJ IV in 1999; it sold out immediately, lets see how to White Cement IVs go down tomorrow on their epic re-release date!

My favourite IV’s are the “Mars Blackmons” colour-way with White/Red/Black with Spike Lee’s alter ego MARS on the heel, picture courtesy of me and my feet ;)

IX

In 1996 Hatfield designed the Jordan XI. Even though Michael was still perusing his baseball career, Hatfield had hoped that Jordan would wear them if he returned to the NBA, which he did. Michael also wore the black/varsity royal/white versions in the Space Jam movie which gave this colour-way their ‘Space Jam’ nickname.

The IX was voted to best sneaker of all time by ‘Sole Collector’ Magazine and is one of the most loved Jordan’s around the world. On 23rd December 2011 I copped my Concords just in time for Christmas however there was a massive storm/rush for the sneaks all over the world on release day. There were reports from the States of Malls being looted hours before opening time and people getting arrested…. All over a pair of sneakers! I think that puts the demand and love for the XIs into perspective a bit.

Air Jordan Spiz’ike

The Air Jordan Spiz’ike was created to commemorate Spike Lee during the Mars Blackmon Era and combines the best elements from the Jordan 3, 4, 5, 6, and 20 and was first released in October 2006.
Spiz’ikes are like a mashup of the Retro Jordan’s and takes a slice of cake from each of the following Air Jordans:
Air Jordan 3 – sole, midsole, and “Spike”/elephant print
Air Jordan 4 – “wings” on the sides of the shoes that hold lace loops
Air Jordan 5 – main silhouette of the shoes, netting on the side, and lace locks
Air Jordan 6 – tongue of shoes
Air Jordan 20 – Lasered graphics on sockliner

SPACE JAM!
Not much text required really…. [insert childhood Looney Tunes memory here]

Jordan IV “23rd Anniversary” Rumours..

2012 just keeps getting better and better for Jordan heads! You will have already seen from previous posts that there are some dope drops on the way this year – so in addition to the 2 confirmed pairs of Air Jordan Retro IV’s returning , now we hear some rumours are swirling around of another Jordan IV release?

Air Jordan Retro White/Varsity Red-Black

A new “23rd Anniversary” colorway of the Air Jordan IV is hopefully set to release sometime during this year, but there is some uncertainty as to whether this will be the same as another Air Jordan IV (last released in 2006) in a White/Varsity Red-Black…. I hope it has Spike Lee on the back again!

As nothing is concrete yet, keep checking here for updates!

Here is a photo of mine, they were a present in 2006, and… my first pair of Jordan’s! <3

‘I’m A Nike Head, I Wear Chains That Excite The Feds…’

To kick off my contribution to Big Eyes, I’ma throw down a selection of my favourite kicks from my collection. Believe me when I say this was a hard task, as like any good mother, I love all my children equally; however I’ve managed to pick out a selection of six for your viewing pleasure.

Here goes…

Alife x Reebok Ventilator

These beauties dropped in Summer ’08, and formed part of a sweet collab between NYC street wear giants Alife and Reebok, which also featured Freestyle High and Pro Legacy Mid models in black and grey colourways respectively. The contrast between the pure white of the uppers and the black speckles of the laces and midsole really set these off for me and they feature a mesh panel in the side which make these a perfect light and airy summer shoe.

My favourite aspect of these were the free speckled laces they came with, perfect for refreshing the colourway when I get bored of plain white!

New Balance H574 Urban Outdoor Collection Limited Edition

Also dropping in ’08, this mid model of the H574 have to be one of my personal favourite cops. The uppers are a mixture of black nubuck leather and suede, with panels of fake horsehair, and if that wasn’t enough they also feature a sick speckled midsole. As you’re about to find out below, I definitely have a penchant for speckles on kicks!

Here’s a closeup of the horse hair, definitely super unique and the best part of these beasts for me.

Jordan VI Retro ‘Oreo’

This black and white colourway of the classic Jordan VI silhouette first dropped in 1999, however these retros came from the Spring 2010 release and tie for my favourite pair of Jordan’s I own. These VI’s are super fresh and clean looking featuring a white textured leather and black nubuck upper brought together perfectly by the speckled midsole.

Even the lace locks have speckles on!

Jordan Spizike (GS) Miami Vice

These babies were released in Spring 2010 and were made solely for those with little feet. Comprising of a mashup of the Jordan 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 9s, and 20s that Spike Lee promoted, Spizikes were originally nicknamed the “retro Frakenstein”; however I think they’re one of the strongest and boldest Jordan models. This colourway in particular is mad dope, the cool grey base with turquoise and pink highlights is complimented with elephant print panels on the toe and heel and best of all a speckled midsole. With so much going on colour and texture wise this shoe could really have flopped, but the end result is incredible. It’s no wonder that these badboys were and still are a highly desirable and sought after release and one of my personal favourites!

NikeiDs of the Original Parra Amsterdam Air Max 1 Hyperstrike

In 2005, Dutch graphic designer and illustrator Parra designed an Air Max silhouette to represent Amsterdam and settled for a design inspired by the Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn. Unfortunately shortly after the first production run, the supermarket changed it’s logo thus making the design redundant. The original design was eventually released as a hyperstrike and distributed to Parra’s friends and family. The colourway was so sick that naturally I had to have these iDs which recreate the magic.

These are the originals:

Nike Air Max 90 Infrared 2010

Last but not least, are my AM90 Infrareds! Universally acknowledged as pretty much the best AM90 colourway of all-time, these are as good as it gets. In my eyes this colourway is perfection, and I had to pick up 2 pairs of these when they dropped in 2010.

So there we have it, hope you enjoyed a little insight into the mind and collection of this sneaker freakette…
