Ain’t No Party Like A Butterz Party

If you missed this last August, fear not. This March, the Butterz label return to Cable, London to bring us another collosal night out.

The event, which celebrates the Butterz label’s 2nd birthday features my personal favourites Swindle, Royal-T and Champion, alongside the likes of JME, Marcus Nasty, Ruby Lee Ryder and of course, Elijah & Skilliam. Grab your tickets here!

To get you in the mood for the party, Grime producer Royal-T makes his Rinse debut with a release entitled Number One. Available in both 12″ and digital formats, Number One features 2 tracks, Inside The Ride and Cool Down – both of which have a really nice old school feel paired with that distinctive Royal-T sound. Number One drops on 5th March, ahead of his first full-length album which be released later on in the year.

Keep it Big Eyes for updates!

Butterz Is The Label

Monday 21st November sees the 16th* installment of Rinse FM’s compilation CD series, mixed by Big Eyes favourites, Elijah and Skilliam. Rinse: 17 is a collection of 2011′s purest grime from past, present and future stars such as Wiley, P Money and Royal-T.

*There was no Rinse:13.

Kicking off the 27-track beast of a compilation is Butterz label soldier, Royal-T’s Orangeade VIP. I first heard this earlier this year vocalled by P Money, Blacks and Little Dee and could NOT get enough of the instrumental. It’s the perfect way to begin the CD and sets the tone for what else is to come. And on it’s way is DOK’s East Coast, Boo You from P Money and Blacks featuring Slickman (any verse that says “dem girlies dem girlies” has my seal of approval), and Rossi B And Luca’s Limehouse, shaping the beginnings of an immense tracklist.

The core of the compilation is made up of meaty, full-on grime (in true Butterz style) including Silo Pass from Bok Bok, Terror Danjah’s Full Attention with Ruby Lee Ryder on the vocals providing probably the catchiest chorus of the year, and a hefty collaboration from Rude Kid, Wizzy Wow, Terror Danjah and the master of contemporary funk, Swindle.

Track 17 holds my personal favourite remix of the year in the form of Trim’s I Am (Preditah remix). The Butterz label have provided a great platform for Trim to get the recognition and support he deserves in 2011. I’m expecting some serious heat from him in the upcoming months!

Picking up the pace again is arguably the biggest grime instrumental of the year, Faze Miyake’s Take Off. If I could MC (actually, my lack of skill isn’t going to stop me), I would pay Faze Miyake a lot of money to have this instrumental for my first single (look out for my mixtape out early 2012).

From start to finish, Elijah & SKilliam’s Rinse 17 perfectly epitomes grime music and although the CD mainly focuses on contemporary grime, I was EXTREMELY pleased to have the Ghetto Kyote instrumental hit me at track 20. Whether its Kano’s vocal or one of the many other versions, this instrumental is untouchable and sounds perfect next to both classic and contemporary grime.

The Rinse 17 mix winds down slowly through the sounds of DJ Q’s Woooo riddim remix, Starkey and Trim’s This Ain’t Me and the incredibly smoooooth Moodswings VIP from Swindle. I was going to go off on a whole tangent about how sick the Moodswings VIP is, but I’ll save that for another post. Just check out the video below.

As a warm-up to the launch of the CD, Elijah & Skilliam hosted a collossal show on Rinse FM last Thursday which had the likes of Terror Danjah, Sir Spyro, Rude Kid, Faze Miyake, Swindle, Royal-T, Rude Kid, D.O.K, Preditah and Mr Mitch all under one roof. EPIC stuff. Do your ears a huge favour and download the 4-hour set here.

The launch party for the upcoming CD takes place this Thursday (10th November) at FWD>> and features Royal-T, Scratcha DVA, Swindle V Silkie and of course Elijah & Skilliam themselves all taking to the decks to do what they do best. I don’t think I need to remind you to leave your best kicks at home, strictly old beaters for this one!
