All Time Classics

While I was writing my last post, I was thinking about what kicks are probably staples and classics in collections all over the world. I was trawling through the web store for yesterday’s post and I came across these. I thought it would be best for me to write about kicks you can actually get now otherwise it’s like dangling candy in front of a baby (or whatever the saying is).

Anyway, enough rambling… I’ve pulled together some styles that I think everyone should have owned at one time or another. Check them out…

Nike Air Max 90

This is definitely a staple shoe and has been in my collection consistently through the years. In every colourway and with any material on its upper, the Air Max 90 has been going strong for nearly 13 years and it still looks as amazing as the day it was first released. I wear mine with both smart and casual outfits and they always make my feet smile!

Adidas Originals Gazelle II

Oh how I love the Gazelle. The very first Gazelle was introduced in 1968 and although this isn’t exactly the same as its predecessors, I am constantly yearning for a pair for my feet and for some reason, over the past few years, I’ve not had the pleasure of owning them! I’m waiting for a black/white suede pair in my tiny size to come along! From the boys playing football on the field at school to me rocking mine with my old Adidas tracksuit, these have been reappearing in my life for years!

Converse All Star Hi

For nearly 100 years these have been a staple in many a footwear fiends collection as they’re simple, easy to clean, seriously classic and timeless. I used to wear these, day in day out. I can’t say I rock them anymore as my tastes have changed but I’d never rule them out! Hands up if you’ve ever owned a pair of All Star Hi’s!

Nike Air Force 1 Lo

I grew up switching between these and my dunk low’s for school shoes, the all white AF1 Lo is such a beautiful shoe. The first basketball shoe to every use the Nike Air technology and named after the plane that the President of the US flies in, this Nike sneaker is celebrating its 30th birthday this year! Happy birthday, AF1, I will always love you!

AM90 London, A Closer Look

Close friend of the blog, Bannerworx went and picked up a pair of the AM90 Londons that I blogged last week. He sent us over some pics so you can all have a closer look.

I’ll let the photos do the talking.

Thanks for the pics Bannerworx!

What do you think of this Air Max 90 release? Did you pick yourself up a pair?

AM90 London

JD Sports are back with another exclusive Nike release.. this time, paying homage to my home city, the place I love more than (most) other cities in the world… LONDON (for the Olympics)!

Nike Air Max 90 ‘London’

With a similar upper to the well loved ‘Infrared’ Air Max 90, only with a slightly deeper red, this release running from a UK6 up (which sucks for the smaller footed sneaker fiend like me) is made into something ridiculously special by the see through sole.. This isn’t just any see through sole, underneath it, is a map of the London underground. I’m literally drooling over this release and sitting here feeling seriously gutted I won’t be able to pick up a pair.

If you get yourself a pair from JD Sports, send us a pic to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.

90s Fiend

Out of all of the Nike Air Max sneakers we blog on Big Eyes, I think that the AM90 is really not talked about enough.

At the moment there are some incredible colourways available.

Nike Air Max 90 ‘Medium Grey/Varsity Royal’

With the known and loved white mesh base, this AM90 release is perfect for the Summer. The royal blue colour is totally set off by the grey overlays and the white Swoosh really adds to the freshness of this shoe. Available from the Nike Store, these run from a UK6 so ladies, get buying!

Nike Air Max 90 ‘Black/Gold Sash’

A black Air Max 90 is (in my opinion) the perfect colourway for this silhouette. The little touches of gold on the branding and air unit give a touch of class to the single coloured upper which features black mesh, leather and patent leather. Available at JD Sports, these also run from a UK6 which is great for most, but annoying for me as I’d love a pair of these!

Nike Air Max 90 ‘Blue Grey/Midnight Navy, White’

Teal is just one of the best colours, whether it’s on sneakers, nail varnish or clothes, I love teal. The midnight navy touches, up against the varying shades of grey leather and mesh work together perfectly but add the white branding and that incredible teal, this shoe is a mixture of most of my favourite colours. Although these are aimed at the male sneaker fiends, these would look amazing finishing off a summer outfit of jean shorts and a baggy tee! Get yours here.

Bannerworx Talks Sneakers

I can’t remember how I met this lovely DJ just over a year ago, but sharing a mutual love of Old School UKG, we’ve always got something to talk about! You might all remember the exclusive mix that he put together for us a while back.. well, Bannerworx is back for more and this time, he tells us about his sneakers!

Name/Occupation?
BANNERWORX / DJ, Photographer, Marketing.

First sneakers you ever bought?
I’m a bit old to remember, but I can say the Nike Cortez was my preferred sneaker of choice from my youth.

Is there a particular sneaker that sticks out from your youth?
Anything Nike, Cortez, Air Flight’s, Air Jordan’s, Reebok Pumps.

Did you own them?
Yeah, I cherished my Air Jordan’s & Cortez’s, but as luck would have it as a kid growing up in New York, where every street corner had a park with hoops, I thought I could fly like Mike, ended them quickly.

What’s your favourite pair of sneakers of all time and why?
That’s easy, Nike Air Max 95’s, just everything about them, the build, the air support, arch support, lacing up, and the fact that they could be worn straight from the street into the gym, and still support a bit of cross training.

Do you have a pair of kicks in your collection that you don’t wear very often and why?
I’m not that fussy really, but it would have to be my Nike Air Jordan CMFT Max Air 12′s. I bought them on a whim in Nike Town. I was shopping for new AF1’s and I saw them and had to have them. I’ll only wear them if the weather is right, and I’m not hopping on TFL, oh lawd let someone step on them……

Staple everyday pair in your collection and why?
These are my every day beaters! Simple, I wear them to work, wear them to clubs if need be. The Fila’s are my newest beaters, bargain of £20 from JD Sports online, and they are comfortable.

Is there a particular style that you keep re-buying?
2 styles will always be in my collection, Air Max 90’s because they make my feet look small and they are comfortable, and give me a bit of height when they are box fresh. And my favourite style is the Air Force 1 Lo, absolute classic style, which will always be timeless, and with so many variations of the sneaker in the world, you can’t possibly tell me you’ll get bored of them.

Beaters or best for raves?
My rave beaters are definitely my black Air Force 1’s if I’m on the decks, and if I’m doing other work in the club, then it’s the all black Air Max’s, baby wipes have to see them both when I get back home afterwards.

Grails?
Nike Huraches, the White, Blue with hyper Green, think it was in ’89 I wanted them. My cousin had a pair, and they were the envy of everyone in the neighbourhood. I’ve been waiting for Nike to re-release them, once they do, I’m all over that like white on rice!

Furthest you’ve ever gone to get a pair?
Nike Town in Oxford Circus sees me for the purchases really, unless it’s a pair I can get in my local FootLocker.

Latest purchase?
My Fila beaters, but as my birthday is approaching, I’m heading to Nike ID to design 2 new pairs for my collection.

Best sneaker experience?
Had to be my Reebok Pumps. I had the hi-top versions, with the blacktop soles. I loved pumping them up…

Worst sneaker experience?
……..until I broke the pump, on my Reebok Pumps. I think I actually cried, because I had saved up for them as well.

Favourite sneaker stores?
Always Nike Town, then Foot Locker, both on Oxford Street, London.

Any new releases you’ve got your eye on?
Looking at the new Reebok Classics collection that Rick Ross keeps posting up, I know they’ll land here in the UK, but when? And any new colour ways for the Air Max 90’s

Have you got any sneaker related stories that have happened when you’ve been djing at a party?
I purchased some Adidas Stan Smiths, they are blue and yellow, so of course, I matched my outfit to go with them and wore them to a event, where I was up on a stage, during my set, people kept pointing at the bottom of the decks where my feet were and smiling, totally did not know what was there, but when I looked down at my feet they were glowing lol. Yeah glow in the dark paint all over the sneakers, so that was cool.

We both share a mutual love for UKG… how has the footwear ravers wear, changed from the Garage days, up until now?
It’s all changed, in the 90’s (Yes I am that old) we didn’t wear sneakers into raves. Hell, the only 2 people in the UKG scene who could do that was, DJ EZ and Karl “TuffEnuff” Brown, the rest of us had to wear loafers, shoes, Gucci’s. Now it’s a casual thing, no effort is really made by the guys, so they waltz into a rave wearing beaters, dusty Converse, old Stan Smiths. The cleanest footwear you’ll get now are Vans. It’s just not the same.

Anything else you’d like to add?
Big ups, to everyone showing love & support. Lel always my inspiration, Hatcha because if he didn’t kick me up the arse I wouldn’t be back DJing and my boys Shak H, Kallum, Kane, Jacob for having my back.

Infra Shadow

When I started Big Eyes, I wrote about how AM90 Infrared’s were my grail sneaker.. Although I own a couple of pairs now, I’m still really excited about this new drop! Nike has released a JD Exclusive AM90 with a new take on the Infrared colourway that we all know and love.

Nike Air Max 90 ‘White/Dark Shadow/Red’
As you can see, these are a slightly toned down version to my grails, but they’re still pretty perfect. On this shoe, the black mudguard has been exchanged for one in ‘dark shadow’ which really sets off the red branding.. especially on the heel tab.
If my birthday present was anything to go by, it’s clear to see that a red sole is something that I’ll always be drawn towards. There’s no explaining it, I just love a red sole and these have exactly that!
Get yours from JD Sports only and lucky for some of you ladies.. they run from a UK6!

Sale Treasures

The January sales please me. In fact, I love them. For those of you who stayed indoors to do your shopping online and stay away from those crazy sale shoppers… I was probably part of that crowd you were avoiding. Don’t get me wrong, you won’t find me queuing at Selfridges 5am Boxing Day, but I do love a proper bargain. I managed to pick up these hotties at good old JD Sports.

Air Force 1 Low White/Fresh-Water/Black

With only one pair left I had to get them in a size 5 and although I would have preferred a 4.5, bargain hunters like me have to be adaptable so I won’t complain. The fact that these trainers have a black outsole is especially great because it will help them to look fresher for longer.

For their first outing I plan to wear these kicks with my tweed print leggings, leather jacket and fur hat- going for that urban farmer chic thang.

@MissRebeccaGee

Take A Photo

Quite a few of the latest Air Max 95 drops have featured the colour blue, and much like the rainbow of greys (Dark, Neutral, Tech, Wolf etc) Nike have recently adopted, the blues come in various shades. The not-too-dark and not-too-light “Photo Blue” has got to be my favourite, feast your eyes on these kicks below!

Nike Air Max 95 – Dark Grey/Light Grey/Photo Blue

Made of nubuck and mesh, I particularly love the lace-hoops and the branding at the back of the shoe. These are scheduled to hit Nike retailers around October!

Next up…

Nike Air Max 95 – Black/ Metallic Silver/Photo Blue

The “Photo Blue” outlines the silver Swoosh on these badboys perfectly and they feature a slick, faux-leather lining. I can imagine them looking so dope worn really casually with blue or black jeans and a plain tee!

These beasts are a JD Sports exclusive, so head over to your nearest branch or shop online for yours!

Going For Gold

Nike Dunk High GS – White/Metallic Gold

Nike have dropped yet another gem for the ladies. At first glance these kicks are so clean and simple. But look closely at that heel and check out the honeycomb detailing!

The perfect-white sneaker sits so nicely on a gum-coloured outsole and is given a feminine boost with a metallic gold Swoosh. Don’t even worry about them getting them dirty as they’re made from leather, so a quick wipe down will keep them looking boxfresh!

Available in GS sizes for just £40, JD Sports have got the hook up!
