Before making it official Yani asked me to write a post on my favorite ever pair of trainers so here it is.

Adidas introduced a whole new concept to the sneaker world, launching Adicolor in 1993. This series of white shoe models were all sold with a pack of fast drying waterproof coloured marker pens so anyone could customise their shoes in any way they wanted. Adicolor then transformed into collaborations with World known artists and designers including the Adicolor Black Series with Keith Hairing and Jeremy Scott, The Blue Series with Cey Adams, Tara Okamoto for The Yellow Series but my favourite of all The Pink Series created by French street artist and now designer, Fafi.

Fafi started out painting witty feminine stereotypes on the walls of her hometown, Toulouse. Attention fast spread and Fafi’s work soon blew up as she collaborated with the likes of MAC, LeSportSac, Married to the Mob and even turned Lily Allen into one of her signature ‘Fafinettes’ for Mark Ronsons version of ‘Oh My God’.
I have a longstanding love for Fafi and I have collected different pieces of her work from a young age from canvases to clothing to trainers to models.

I have to admit when the Adicolor HI P2 was released I wasn’t camping out at the nearest sneaker outlet, infact I didn’t get my hands on these until a year later when I came across a pair in my size on eBay. Without hesitating I put in my highest bid and 3 days later they arrived. I carefully took them out of the silky Fafinette printed drawstring bag and noticed the small wooden doll heads on the strings that matched those on the laces of the shoe. The tongue, toe box and inner all crafted from the same printed silky fabric that made up the drawstring bag. The characters on the upper are so detailed as if Fafi actually drew them on herself. It was love at first sight.
In a campaign video for Adicolor Fafi said “I wanted something that I could have drawn myself on the shoe. So I decided to make a print to put all over the inside of the shoe. I’m very happy to work on this special colour for this project because when I was little I was a real tomboy and I didn’t like pink – I didn’t like all the girly stuff – but then, when I grew up, I stared to understand things about sweetness, about femininity – and pink is directly related to that.”

Once this shoe was on, that was it. It wasn’t coming off. They were definitely my favourite pair of trainers and even though these days I am definitely more of a Nike girl, Adidas and specifically these trainers were the gateway to my ever-growing sneaker obsession! I wore them until their very death when sadly my Mum threw them out! (Never forgiven) I’ve since searched the internet to attempt to get my hands on another pair but no luck; I’d give up half of my other trainers to get my hands on a pair of these again!

I carried on collecting more of Fafi’s collaborations with Adidas. Including a pair of yellow Honey Mid’s and a mint green pair Stan Smith Sleek’s both from the Sleek Series plus a pair of black and white Velcro Stan Smith’s.
